Arriving in Munich

We arrived in Munich on a mild, cloudy afternoon.  Getting from the airport to the hotel was easy, and before we knew it we were checked into our ultra-modern room and heading downstairs to tell mom and dad we had arrived. That first photo is the view from mom and dad's room...they definitely got the better room!!  We bundled up (not much, it was actually a pretty warm day) and set out into the busy streets in search of something to eat, and more importantly some good Bavarian beer!

After a couple of Christmas Market sausages and a bit of a wander we made our way into the Hofbräuhaus, as you do when in Munich!  We worked our way through the maze of tables and found four empty seats, and before too long each had a beer in hand (liters for Bryn, Mom and dad, and a half liter of weissbier for me).  Bryn and I couldn't resist buying a gigantic pretzel from the guy wandering the place all decked out in lederhosen.

By the time we finished and went back outside, it was already getting dark.  We took a walk through the main Christmas market before the travel caught up with Bryn and I, so we headed back to the hotel to get some sleep.

It was SO nice to feel cool winter air and a Christmassy atmosphere (Europe does Christmas really, really well!) All in all, it was a very successful first afternoon in Deutschland!

  2. Munich is beautiful! Can't wait to hear about the rest of your vacation! Were you able to catch up on Downton Abbey? I'm anxiously awaiting for the premiere in the US!

    1. Isn't it beautiful?! Of course I think anywhere in Europe is beautiful (I'm a little obsessed)! I did re-watch Downton Abbey...it's my go-to on long flights since it always seems to be showing on Emirates. I've already watched the latest season here in the UAE (on the UK schedule) and it's a good one! You're in for a treat :)
