A Morning at Souk Al Bahar, Dubai

On Sunday I woke up bright and early to drop Bryn off at work so I could commandeer the car for the day.  I had decided it was high time I got out of the house, so I was going to spend the morning in Dubai Mall!

We always get to the mall before it is technically open, mostly to avoid traffic and parking issues at the biggest mall in the world.  Sunday was no different.  I arrived about 30 minutes before the shops opened and decided instead of my usual coffee inside the mall, I would wander over to Souk Al Bahar and have my coffee al fresco (and take some snapshots along the way).

The souk is a sort of dining/shopping area located right in the middle of the lagoon where the huge dancing fountain lives.  It is connected to the Palace Hotel (which I would really, really love the opportunity to spend the night in sometime!)

Like the mall, most of the shops were closed when I got there, but the cafes were awake making it a lovely setting for an iced latte and a stroll before it got too hot.

A very pleasant place to have coffee, I think!

Also on the lagoon is the tallest building in the world - the Burj Khalifa (There are a lot of superlatives in Dubai - biggest, tallest, thickest...they don't half-ass anything).  It is seriously tall - like, can't get it into one picture tall.  Photoshop helped me stitch a few together though.

As the shops in the souk started to come alive, that was my cue to head back across the lagoon to the mall.

I think if I lived in Dubai I would visit this area several times a week, just to get outside and move around a bit.  Visiting places like this are definitely one of the glamorous parts of living in the UAE! (Trust me, there are plenty of not-so-glamorous parts as well.)

More on my morning at the mall tomorrow ;)
