Back in Al Ain

I'm baaaack!

I decided to take a little break from posting while we were traveling back the the UAE.  Do you know how far apart the UAE and Alabama are?  Really, really far.  It requires and awful lot of flying and (unfortunately) very little sleep in order to get from one side of the earth to the other.

We arrived back in Al Ain to a very hot, sandy house and a couple of not-so-nice surprises.

First, Bryn turned the water back on in each bathroom (we turn it off over the summer just incase a pipe breaks or something...no one wants to come home to a flooded house and the kind of water bill that comes with it).  He announced that we shouldn't use the master toilet because a pipe was leaking.  I walked through the bedroom a minute later and could hear water flowing pretty rapidly - it wasn't a broken pipe, but rather a cracked tank...seems we will be replacing that toilet!  At least there are two others in the house that are working.

The next surprise came the following morning.  Bryn went out to reconnect the car battery only to find out it was dead.  We called his step-mother and asked her if she could come give us a jump.  That didn't work - the battery was completely gone.  Thank goodness Jan offered to run me to the store for some rations while Bryn dealt with the car service center.  By the end of the day, we had a brand new battery (that cost us nothing - yay!) and our own means of transportation.

Overall we could have had much worse luck upon returning, so I guess we came out ok.  We are slowly getting back to normal around here and readjusting to the lifestyle after six whole weeks in the USA.

I had such a great summer vacation, although I'm sure that was easy to see from all of my summer posts!  We spent our last weekend in Alabama at Perdido with my mom, dad, brother, sister-in-law and nephew.  We had the prettiest sunset one night, and woke up in the morning to a full rainbow.  It was the perfect way to finish a fantastic summer!
